Jean Acton will be remembered for her love of Western Boone, education, and the community. Jean passed away on March 17th, 2021 leaving behind her passion for philanthropy and was credited as the founding member of WBEF. Some may not know of Jean’s presence, but in an interview with Dr. Judi Hendricks, she stated, “Jean came to me and was very adamant that Western Boone needed an Education Foundation. Although she was never a board member Jean met with individuals and acquired the funding we needed to get the foundation started.” Jean was civic minded and belonged to many Boone County organizations serving on the Community Foundation of Boone County board of directors for ten years. In 2018 she received the Aaron Stookey Spirit of Philanthropy Award given to individuals and/or businesses that exemplify the spirit of giving.
Jean’s daughter, Charlotte Frandsen said, “Mom had been in banking all her life and was well connected with the community. It’s those types of connections, her knowledge and passion for Boone County that brought awareness to those in need. She believed donations to WBEF could assist with the needs for students and teachers.” The education foundation is proud to carry on Jean’s legacy in identifying and filling those who are in need.
