Hannah RedlinHello, my name is Hannah Redlin, and I decided to further my education at the University of Indianapolis. I am a nursing major and plan to become a geriatric nurse. Attending Western Boone offered me many learning opportunities that led me to this decision. By offering a certified nursing assistant course, I learned the basic skills that a nurse will need and was able to see the impact that health care workers have on their patients. Before I enrolled in this course, I was unsure if nursing was the right path for me; But after watching how the nurses helped and cared for their patients, I knew this was the career path for me. While doing our clinicals in the nursing homes, my heart grew for the elderly population. While in school, I continue to come back home and work at the Witham hospital with the elderly. I am so thankful for Western Boone and the guidance counselors for all their hard work in making these opportunities available to us students. I am also extremely thankful for the Western Boone Education Foundation and their generosity to award me this scholarship. Receiving this scholarship helps lessen the financial burden of college and helps encourage me to perform my best to represent the school and this scholarship to the best of my ability. I am so thankful that I attended a school that is so willing to help their students succeed. Thank you WBEF for helping me pursue my dream job!

Keith DobbsThis Fall, I am attending the University of Southern Indiana and studying nursing. While in the nursing vocational class offered through Western Boone High School, I realized that I enjoy helping people and want to be a nurse. I also was able to earn my CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) license through the vocational class. This past summer, I worked as a CNA at the Lebanon Witham Hospital in the Extended Care Unit. I have been doubly blessed by my education at Western Boone High School which has given me the ability to earn extra money for college through the CNA license and by receiving the Western Boone Education Foundation scholarship to help toward tuition.

Max WheatleyMy name is Max Wheatley and I’m currently attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. I’m majoring in mechanical engineering and hope to earn my professional engineering license after college. I chose to study mechanical engineering because I’ve always had an interest in how things work and after taking some of the Project Lead the Way classes at Webo I felt sure it was what I wanted to do in the future. Receiving the scholarship from the WBEF was amazing and the money was put towards the laptop I use everyday in and out of class. It was special to have WEBO help me one last time before going off to the next chapter of my life. Thank you!

AIDAN MAURATHI decided to pursue my college education at Purdue University. I’m majoring in political science with minors in business economics and peace studies. Political science has been what I’ve wanted to major in for as long as I can remember. Social studies has always been my passion, so I thought it was a no-brainer to center my college education around the subject. I hope to one day use my degree to work for the government, go to law school, or something else along those lines. Receiving the John Kelley scholarship from the WBEF has meant a lot to me. While it has obviously helped lower my need for student loans, it has also inspired me to do the best I can in my education and be an active member in the community. I’ve joined several clubs here at Purdue and plan on being even more active moving forward. Additionally, I hope to add a second major and perhaps one or two more minors in the future, although I’m still considering what these will be. I am extremely grateful for the generosity of the WBEF and Mr. Kelley’s family.
